Practice Questions

Q1. Round 6,842 to the nearest hundred.
6,800 (the tens digit is 4, so round down).

Q2. Write 7,309 in expanded form.
7000 + 300 + 0 + 9.

Q3. Round 3,955 to the nearest thousand.
4,000 (the hundreds digit is 9, so round up).

Q4. Which is bigger: 5,280 or 5,208?
5,280 — compare digit by digit from the left; the hundreds digit (2) is equal, so the tens digit decides (8 > 0).

Q5. A train travels 2,458 km. Round this distance to the nearest ten.
2,460 km.

Why These Help

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these questions come directly from the NCERT textbook?
No — these are original practice questions on the same rounding and place-value ideas taught in the chapter.

What’s a quick way to check a rounding answer?
Compare it to the original number — a correctly rounded number should be close to the original, never off by more than half of the place value being rounded to.
