Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information NCERTBooks.org (https://ncertbooks.org) collects when you visit this site, how that information is used, and the choices available to you. NCERTBooks.org is an independent educational resource; we are not affiliated with NCERT, CBSE, or the Ministry of Education, and this policy covers only our own website, not any government or third-party site we link to.
Information We Collect
We keep the data we collect to what is genuinely needed to run and improve the site:
- Analytics data. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and how visitors generally navigate the site (for example, page views, approximate location at the country/city level, device type, and referring site). This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
- Contact form submissions. If you use our Contact page, we collect whatever information you choose to include — typically your name, email address, and message — so we can respond to you.
- Comments. If comments are left on a post, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus the commenter’s IP address and browser user-agent string, to help with spam detection.
- Server and security logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information (such as IP address and request timestamps) for security and troubleshooting purposes.
We do not require you to create an account or log in to browse the catalog, read a book, or download a chapter.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies:
- Caching cookies. We use a caching plugin (WP Rocket) to load pages faster. These cookies help the server decide whether to show you a cached version of a page and do not identify you personally.
- Analytics cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits from new ones and to compile aggregate usage statistics.
- Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in a cookie for your convenience on future comments. These last for one year.
- Login cookies. These only apply to site administrators, not to regular visitors, since public user registration is disabled on this site.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. Media
If you upload images to the website (for example, as part of a comment or contact submission), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as visitors who can access such images could extract that location data.
Embedded Content and External Links
Our book pages link directly to NCERT’s own official server (ncert.nic.in) for chapter downloads, rather than hosting textbook files ourselves. When you click through to ncert.nic.in or any other external site, that site’s own privacy policy and data practices apply, not ours. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any external site you visit.
Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers described above (for example, Google, for analytics), and only as needed for them to provide that service. If you request a password reset (relevant only to site administrators), your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How Long We Retain Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments from you can be recognised automatically rather than held in a moderation queue. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to address your inquiry. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ own default retention settings.
Children’s Privacy
NCERTBooks.org is a study resource used by school-age students, but the site itself does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Browsing the catalog, reading books, and downloading chapters do not require submitting any personal information. We encourage parents and teachers to supervise younger students’ use of the internet generally, including on this site.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have left a comment or submitted a contact form, you can request an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you, and you can request that we erase it. This does not include data we are required to keep for legitimate administrative, legal, or security purposes. To make either request, please use our Contact page.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add a new feature or third-party service that changes what data we collect. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
