NCERT Solutions for Class 1 Maths Chapter 8: Fun with Numbers
What this chapter teaches.
Oral counting from 21 to 99 (and reviewing counting up to 20); recognising and writing two-digit numerals in this range; arranging numbers in order (smallest to largest and largest to smallest); and comparing quantities using basic inequality ideas (more than / less than / equal to).
Activity 1 — Count Out Loud.
Children practise counting aloud from 21 to 99, usually starting from a given number and continuing on, or counting a set of objects that go beyond 20.
Activity 2 — Write the Number.
Children write the numeral for a number said aloud or shown as a group of objects (for example, writing “45” after counting 45 objects).
Activity 3 — Arrange in Order.
Given a jumbled set of numbers within 21-99, children arrange them from smallest to largest (ascending) or largest to smallest (descending).
Activity 4 — Compare Numbers.
Children compare two numbers and say which is more and which is less — for example, between 34 and 43, 43 is more.
Why This Chapter Matters
This chapter takes children’s number sense from single digits (0-20) into two-digit numbers up to 99, which is essential before they can work confidently with larger addition, subtraction, and place value in later classes.
How to Use These Solutions
