NCERT Solutions for Class 1 Maths Chapter 3: Mango Treat

What this chapter teaches.
Counting objects one at a time up to 9, matching a group of objects to the correct numeral, comparing two groups to say which has more/less/smallest/biggest, simple addition (combining two small groups and counting the total), and tracing/writing the numerals 1 to 9.

Activity 1 — Count the Mangoes.
The book shows groups of mangoes and asks children to count and write how many. Since the exact pictures are in the child’s own textbook, count together out loud, touching each mango once per number, then write the matching numeral.

Activity 2 — More or Fewer?
Children compare two groups (for example, one child’s mangoes vs. another’s) and say which group has more and which has fewer/smaller. Line the two groups up one-to-one to see which runs out first — that group has fewer.

Activity 3 — Putting Mangoes Together (Addition).
When two small groups of mangoes are combined, children count the new total. For example, if one child has 3 mangoes and another has 2, putting them together and counting gives 5.

Activity 4 — Trace and Write.
Children trace the printed numerals 1 to 9 and then practise writing them independently, usually multiple times per number, moving left to right and top to bottom as shown by the arrows in the book.

Why This Chapter Matters

This is the first formal introduction to numbers in Class 1 — everything later in the book (Making 10, How Many?, Vegetable Farm) builds directly on being able to count, compare, and write 1 to 9 confidently.

How to Use These Solutions

Practise counting real small objects (buttons, fruit, toy blocks) up to 9 every day, and have the child write each numeral as they count it. Download the full chapter from our Class 1 Maths NCERT book page, or browse the Class 1 hub.
