Fresh HOTS-level extra questions for Class 7 Maths Chapter 3 (A Peek Beyond the Point), with numbers not found in the NCERT book. Full worked solutions included. These Class 7 Mathematics Chapter 3 important questions are handy for last-minute exam practice.
Q1. Add: 12.075 + 8.9 + 0.36
Solution: 12.075+8.9 = 20.975; +0.36 = 21.335.
Q2 (Subtraction with borrowing). Find 50 − 23.456.
Solution: 50.000 − 23.456 = 26.544.
Q3 (Assertion–Reason). Assertion (A): 3.7 is greater than 3.65. Reason (R): Comparing decimals means comparing the total number of digits.
Solution: A is true (3.70>3.65, since 7>6 at the tenths place). R is false — comparison is based on place value, not digit count (e.g. 3.7 has fewer digits than 3.65 but is still larger). A is true; R is false.
Q4 (Word problem). A runner completes a race in 12.6 seconds in round 1 and improves by 0.85 seconds in round 2. What is the round 2 time?
Solution: 12.6 − 0.85 = 11.75 seconds.
Q5 (Ordering). Arrange in ascending order: 6.05, 6.5, 6.055, 6.505, 6.5005.
Solution: Comparing place by place: 6.05 < 6.055 < 6.5 < 6.5005 < 6.505.
Q6 (Unit conversion). Convert 2.5 km to metres, then to centimetres.
Solution: 2.5 km = 2.5×1000 = 2,500 m. In cm: 2,500×100 = 2,50,000 cm.
Q7 (Spot the error). A student says 0.8 + 0.09 = 0.17. Find and correct the error.
Solution: Incorrect — the student appears to have added the digits (8+9=17) without aligning place values. Correctly: 0.80+0.09 = 0.89.
Q8 (Money problem). A shopkeeper sells 3 items priced ₹45.50, ₹12.75, and ₹8.25. What change is due from a ₹100 note?
Solution: Total = 45.50+12.75+8.25 = ₹66.50. Change = 100−66.50 = ₹33.50.
Q9 (Digit puzzle). Using the digits 3, 0, 7, 2 exactly once, form the decimal closest to 50 (whole-number part from 2 digits, decimal part from the other 2).
Solution: Best whole-number part using two of the digits: 70 (using 7,0) is 20 away from 50; 32 (using 3,2) is 18 away — so 32 is closer. Remaining digits 7, 0 arranged for smallest addition: 32.07.
Q10 (Sequence). Find the next 3 terms: 2.5, 2.75, 3.0, 3.25, ___, ___, ___
Solution: Common difference = +0.25. Next terms: 3.5, 3.75, 4.0.
