What this chapter teaches.
Children share a total number of objects equally among a given number of groups or people, and learn to connect this to multiplication: if 4 groups of 5 make 20 (multiplication), then sharing 20 equally into 4 groups gives 5 each (division) — the same fact, viewed two ways. Children also learn what to do when a sharing does not come out evenly, leaving a remainder.

Activity 1 — Sharing Equally.
Children share a total number of objects equally among a given number of people, one at a time, and count how many each person receives.

Activity 2 — Connecting to Multiplication.
Children see that a known multiplication fact (like 4 x 5 = 20) can be flipped around into a sharing fact (20 shared among 4 gives 5 each, and 20 shared among 5 gives 4 each).

Activity 3 — Sharing with Leftovers.
Children practise sharing amounts that do not divide evenly, finding how many each person gets and how many are left over (for example, sharing 17 sweets among 5 friends gives 3 each, with 2 left over).

Activity 4 — Fair Share Word Problems.
Simple real-life word problems about sharing things equally — distributing books, pencils, or fruits fairly among classmates or family members.

Fair Share is where division starts, even though the formal xc3xb7 symbol may not yet be used — understanding sharing as the flip side of multiplication builds a genuine, connected understanding of both operations, rather than treating them as unrelated rules to memorise.
