NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Maths Chapter 2: Hide and Seek
What this chapter teaches.
Describing where something is on a grid (using rows and columns, like a simple map reference); reading and following a path or route on a simple map (for example, a school map); recognising an object’s top view, side view, and front view; and playing observation-based games that build spatial reasoning.
Activity 1 — Grid Game.
Children create or use a grid on paper and find objects or locations based on clues (e.g. “2 boxes right, 3 boxes up”). This is a genuinely playable activity: draw a simple grid at home, place a few small objects, and practise giving and following directions using rows/columns.
Activity 2 — Read the School Map.
The book shows a map of a school and asks children to trace or describe a path between two points (e.g. from the classroom to the library). Work through the specific map in the book together, tracing the route with a finger while naming each turn.
Activity 3 — Top, Side, and Front Views.
Children look at a 3D object (or its picture) and identify what it looks like from directly above (top view), from the side, and from the front — these are often different shapes for the same object.
Why This Chapter Matters
Reading grids and maps, and recognising different views of the same object, are core spatial-reasoning skills used in later geometry, and in real-life navigation and map-reading.
How to Use These Solutions
Try the grid game and path-tracing activities with real paper and objects at home, since they are meant to be hands-on rather than purely visual. Download the full chapter from our Class 4 Maths NCERT book page, or browse the Class 4 hub.
