NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Maths Chapter 12: Ticking Clocks and Turning Calendar

What this chapter teaches.
Reading a clock face for hours and minutes; the relationships 1 hour = 60 minutes, half hour = 30 minutes, quarter hour = 15 minutes; AM (before noon) and PM (after noon), and the 24-hour clock (where midnight = 00:00); reading a calendar — 12 months in a year, a week has 7 days, a year has 52 weeks; and leap years, which occur every 4 years and add an extra day (29 February) instead of the usual 28.

Activity 1 — Read the Clock.
Children practise reading the time shown on an analogue clock face, in both hours-and-minutes form and using AM/PM.

Activity 2 — Convert 12-hour to 24-hour.
Children convert times like “3:00 PM” into 24-hour format (“15:00”), and vice versa.

Activity 3 — Use the Calendar.
Given a calendar page, children find dates, count days between events, and identify the day of the week for a given date.
