NCERT Solutions for Class 4 Maths Chapter 8: Weigh it, Pour it
What this chapter teaches.
Weight units — kilogram (kg) for heavier things, gram (g) for lighter things; capacity units — litre (L) for larger amounts of liquid, millilitre (mL) for smaller amounts; using a weighing balance/machine to weigh real items (like vegetables at a market); using measuring cups/containers to measure liquid; and estimating weight or capacity before checking with a tool.
Activity 1 — Vegetable Market Weighing.
Children work through scenarios of weighing vegetables or fruit on a weighing machine, reading the kg/g measurement shown.
Activity 2 — Pour and Measure.
Using measuring cups or containers marked in mL/L, children measure and compare the capacity of different containers (a glass, a bottle, a bucket).
Activity 3 — Water Conservation.
The chapter connects capacity measurement to water usage at home, encouraging children to think about how much water common activities use and how to save it.
Why This Chapter Matters
Weight and capacity are everyday measurement skills used in cooking, shopping, and health, and understanding kg/g and L/mL builds the foundation for later unit-conversion work.
