What this chapter teaches.
Children learn to name the seven days of the week in order, the twelve months of the year, and India’s main seasons (summer, monsoon/rainy, winter), and connect them to a simple calendar. The chapter also introduces reading time on a clock to the hour (for example, recognising that the short hand on 3 and the long hand on 12 shows 3 o’clock).

Activity 1 — Days of the Week.
Children recite the seven days of the week in order and identify what day comes before or after a given day, and which day today, yesterday, and tomorrow are.

Activity 2 — Months and Seasons.
Children learn the twelve months in order and match them to seasons — for example, which months are typically summer, which are monsoon, and which are winter, based on where they live.

Activity 3 — Reading a Calendar.
Children look at a monthly calendar page and answer questions like which day of the week a certain date falls on, or how many days are in that month.

Activity 4 — Telling Time (O'Clock).
Children practise reading a clock face when the long (minute) hand points to 12 and the short (hour) hand points to a number, reading it as that number o’clock (for example, hour hand on 7, minute hand on 12, is 7 o’clock).

Why This Chapter Matters

Understanding days, months, seasons, and basic clock-reading are everyday life skills children use immediately (knowing their school timetable, planning their day) and form the basis for more detailed time chapters (like Time Goes On) in Class 3.
